Why your dog should have a license
- It enables a stray or injured dog to be identified with its owner.
- Animal shelters throughout the state are required to hold strays wearing licenses for at least seven days and to make every effort to notify the owner.
- People finding a stray dog wearing a license tag can phone the St. Clair County Dog Pound at (810) 984-3155 for the owner’s information and return it directly home.
- A license shows that a dog has been vaccinated against rabies which helps protect the community.
- Dog licenses sales generate a portion of the funds needed to provide animal control services.
- State law requires that all dogs be vaccinated and licensed within 4 months of age and get re-licensed every year.
- By licensing on time, you pay the lowest fee and can avoid getting a fine and citation for failure to license.
- To obtain a dog license or renew you must show proof of rabies vaccination.
