Clay Fire gets Advanced Life Support Certification

The Clay Township Fire Department can bring emergency room care to residents, but it can't bring patients to the emergency room.

The fire department on Friday obtained advanced life support certification.

"We can give our patients the same level of care they'll receive in an ER, basically, as they're waiting for the ambulance to get there," said Clay Township Fire Capt. Frank Bayly.

Bayly said the added service will benefit community members, especially those living on islands within the fire department's jurisdiction.

"That was the majority of the reason we wanted to become ALS certified, because of our islands mainly accessible by boat," Bayly said.
