Clay Township Fire Department

Last year was a busy one for Clay Township Fire Rescue with 794 calls. In March 2001 our department was authorized to order a new Sutphen fire engine. It arrived in April 2002 and will be placed in service after training is completed. Equipment from our 1978 pumper will be removed and placed on our new pumper, and the old one will be sold.

If you are interested in serving our community and helping others, please contact us at (810) 794-0966 or (810) 794-9347, stop by the fire station on Ainsworth Road, near the Algonac High School or email Chief Rick Edler. Please feel free to visit, see our equipment, and ask questions!

Clay Township Fire Department also offers reflective address signs for $13! Please print out one of two forms and get one today!

Harsens Island Fire Department

The HIFD has been busy this past year! We now have city water with real fire hydrants on most of the island. The equipment has been purchased to utilize the new hydrants, which use five inch supply hose and fittings, and we are looking forward to begin training with this new equipment. This will mean faster access to water at fires when time is important - to save lives and property.

We are currently in the process of looking for a new pumper. Our 1975 Ford pumper is 27 years old, and outdated due to current standards. The new pumper, along with the new hydrants, will help us try to get a lower ISO fire rating, saving all of us on our fire insurance premiums.

We have paid off the fire hall building this year, thus saving the taxpayers of Harsens Island a substantial amount of interest if we had allowed the building loan to run to term. To accomplish this, the funds will come out of this year's budget. We are currently applying for and receiving funds from various state, federal, and local sources to help offset the cost of much needed training and equipment.

We are always looking for people who would like to be part of our department; please contact us if you are interested. (810)748-3044.
